Throughout the early and late '90s the Illawarra was a hot-spot for rotary enthusiasts. Many well know builds have been born in this region and still to this day we see many tough examples cruising the streets on the regular.
Always looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy their toys, the local Rotors in the Gong crew joined up with Sydney-based Mazda Mayhem group who were having their annual cruise south for an afternoon catch-up at the popular Cordeaux Dam meet point.
Although only able to rustle up a small group due to many having prior xmas-related engagements, we tagged along with the RITG guys as they cruised up the mountain to the dam.
After a short but fun run up we were met with around 15 well presented rotors of all eras from late 60's era R100s to late model RX7s.
There was plenty to feast your eyes and ears on during our stay and it was good to catch up with friends and other enthusiasts.
One particular car that caught our eye was this immaculate restored RX4 sedan that looked like it had just rolled off the production line! Definitely not something you see every day and in amongst the sea of of highly-modified examples it's great to see these classics are still out there and being used rather than sitting away in garages gathering dust.
As things wrapped up and the Sydney group began to head back north we were treated to a symphony of awesomeness. That unmistakable rotary sound, love it or hate it is like nothing else and for us it's always the icing on the cake for any and all of these meets!
The meet may only have been a short one on our end but more than enough time to have a chat, grab some snaps and get amongst it all and as always we're glad to have been a part of it. If you yourself own a rotary and would like to be a part of the next run, be sure to get onto the Facebook pages and join up here -
