Becoming an automotive enthusiast isn't something that usually happens overnight, the passion for cars that we all seem to share is often developed over many years, in some cases a lifetime. For many, like Adam Smith it started from a very young age.
Adam recalls how he used to spend most of his time as a youngster drawing these American beauties, cutting photos out of various magazines and then later on spending hours on end searching the internet for cool photos and desktop backgrounds for his computer.
Adam would drive his parents crazy, talking about Mustangs 24/7 and what's really amusing to hear is he tells us he still can't stop talking about them to this day.
These days we're told it's his lovely wife Anita that gets to hear all about the cars and while early on in the relationship those same feelings his folks felt whenever Adam would bring up anything Mustang related would be shared with his very understanding wife, her response was the old classic response; "One day babe, when we win lotto...
Fast forward 14 years to 2013, Adam now has a small family of his own with a beautiful daughter named Zali keeping him busy and although a lot had changed in his life, there was still pure mustang blood running through his veins; the passion as strong as ever.
For the next 12 months Adam would become fanatical, trying to find a way to come up with the funds to make his dream come true and with a family to look after we all know how hard it can be to find the spare coin to put towards a toy for yourself.
Thankfully in Adams case, some solid property investments over that period really paid off and finally he had the funds and the all-important green light from the missus to bring his dream to reality.
After some time spent searching the usual trading websites and forums looking for a worthy machine, Adam came across a black 1967 Fastback 390GT S-Code in Queensland. After a brief discussion over the phone with the owner Adam was on a plane, on his way north to check it out and when he finally arrived at the house, he knew instantly that this was the car he'd been longing for all these years. This was Adam's dream machine!
The pristine vehicle you see here immediately stole Adam's heart and without hesitation funds were exchanged and the car was on its way back to Wollongong.
This story really comes as no surprise to us either when you take a good look at this car; to put it simply, it's an amazing piece of vehicular awesomeness! From the flawless Jett black exterior, topped off with various Shelby accessories including air dams, bonnet scoop as well as fully functional cooling ducts and cabin vents to the immaculate interior; the car screams classic American muscle.
The attention to detail in this car just has to be seen to be believed. Even the boot area is a show piece!
And don't go thinking that she's all show and no go because you'd be hugely mistaken if you did... Under the hood resides a staunch stroked 401-cube Ford FE V8 equipped with a long list of go-fast goodies.
A forged bottom end topped with Keith Craft stage 2 ported Edelbrock Performer heads forms the base of the build, accompanied by shaft-mounted roller rockers, triple valve springs and a Crow solid cam which provides car with some solid top-end performance as well as that nice lumpy idle.
Topping it all off is a Holley HP 750cfm carby providing the fuel while the spark side of things is controlled by a comprehensive MSD ignition system.
Power-wise it's anyone's guess what she puts out however our arse-ometer and the grumble she emits from the mandrel-bent twin 3in exhaust system tells us it's more than enough to get the old girl flying at warp speed in next to no time...
Racing and hooning about though is definitely not on Adam's mind when he's out and about in his machine. Rather he prefers to enjoy a leisurely cruise down the coast with the family, taking in the sights our beautiful region has to offer or attending local car meets and events where he can share his passion with other like-minded enthusiasts.
So what's next for Adam and his Fastback? More cruising of course...And maybe adding a few extra accessories and trick bits to really set it off we're told but mainly he just wants to enjoy his toy with the family.
Either way Adam you've got yourself one-hell of a cool ride and to see that your patience and dedication to bringing your dreams to life paid off in the end only makes us even happier for you!
And just so you know, if you even need someone to ride shot-gun, you've got our number...
