Now we know we say this pretty much after every meet but this month you guys, the modified car enthusiasts of the Illawarra & surrounding areas really, and we mean REALLY blew us away!!
Despite forcasts of ice-cold temperatures and a looming storm, the July Monthly Meet saw a record number or cars in attendance, the number easily eclipsing the 200+ mark for the night; our biggest meet to date by far!
As always the quality of cars on show was high, with a great variety of different makes and models parked up for the night. Speaking of parked, due to the number of cars showing up we were double and triple stacked in some places with many car owners forced to do several laps around the venue before they could snap up a parking spot. It was like parking in town on the last shopping day before Christmas, it was that crazy!
Unlike previous meets where we were pretty much contained in the Bunnings side of the car park, this month cars were spewed over into the McDonalds car park and beyond. Those car owners probably kicking themselves they didn't come out earlier...
While the massive grouping of tough cars was outstanding, the sheer number of people that had gathered and were walking around had us simply shocked. Groups of mates, families, young and old and all with smiles of their faces and all seemingly having a great night out.
Every single parking spot was prime real estate this month, with every spot occupied by well-presented automobiles from pretty much 6pm onwards.
Old school and new, muscle cars, imports and high-end luxy cars were all present, once again showcasing the the fact that these meets are open to everyone, no matter what scene your into. Hell, we even had a cool truck-looking thing with big chrome dual stacks!
Each month we're presented with cars making their first appearance at the Monthly Meet and as always there are a few stand-outs like this wicked twin turbo LX. Stunning paint and trim, big colour coded Simmons and whole lot of toughness under the hood made it one of the coolest cars of the night.
Unfortunately our meet this month was cut short due to the wet stuff arriving sooner than expected and with hail on the radar the majority of car owners hightailed it home to the safety of their garage quick-smart.
Even though we still had a few guys that hung around and the rain did ease up after a half hour or so. We even had a few late arrivals drop by including Mick Voase in his insane 8-second LX Hatch.
After such an awesome night we're still on a high and the online chatter and feedback we've been receiving has been off the chart! This is a very positive thing for all of us and just goes to show that the modified car scene in this region is indeed back in action in a big way and if we keep playing our cards right guys it will be here to stay!
