When it comes to kids charities, everyone knows that members of the modified car community have big hearts and are always up for anything that can make the lives of needy children, their families and friends a little bit easier or brighter.
So when our Community Relations Manager Chris was approached by a representative for Camp Quality Illawarra to gather up some cool cars to transport their latest group of graduates to their graduation dinner, it was a no-brainer that plenty of local car owners would jump at the opportunity.
Come Monday the 11th of April, 21 tough machines including a few guys that made the trip from Sydney for the cause along with a hand full of Harleys met up at Lake Heights before cruising up to the pick up point at the Stanwell Tops Conference Center.
Rolling into the venue you could almost feel the excitement building up in the air, not only from the huge group of kids and volunteers, but the car owners themselves.
The chance to bring a smile and some excitement to the face of someone who has been through hardship is something that anyone would get a buzz out of.
Eyeing off the cars in the line and hoping they got to ride in their favorite, the joy you could see on the youngsters faces and even the Camp Quality volunteers was awesome. After all, how much cooler is it to cruise in a turbo rotary 808 wagon like Stephen's here, than a boring old bus or even a limo for that matter...
We did however also muster up a luxury option for the kids, that being Paul's sleek black Mazerati.
Joining in on the fun and adding some celebrity buzz to the evening, we also had Marty and Fairlie from i98 cruising in their big rigs.
After a leisurely cruise down the highway, the group rolled into a rock star-like reception at Wests Illawarra Leagues Club
Cheers, applause and mile-wide smiles lined the entrance to the club, only adding to the excitement for everyone involved.
Even after Fairlie dropped off the last group of graduates in the i98 Convoy truck, the excitement and adrenaline was still far from wearing off for the group.
Being part of this special night is something we were all very thankful for and definitely something that won't soon be forgotten and we all hope that the kids feel the same way!
We've always said that the Illawarra is home to some awesome folks and this group right here is a prime example of that! Taking time away from their own families and some leaving work early just to get involved; they're all champions in our books and we thank each and every one of them. Bring on the next charity cruise!!
