The month of May marked the beginning of something new for the IMCC Monthly meets as we spent the first night at the new Warrawong Plaza roof top venue.
Since making the announcement mid way through last month we have been working eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get a sizable group up to the roof top to see how everything would flow and get people's feedback and while there was divided opinions from some leading up to the meet and another 3 similar car meets on the same night, we still ended up with a turnout waaay above expectations!
The new venue that holds in excess of 500+ vehicles was near packed-out from quarter to seven with a great mixture of new and old school cars from all makes and models.
On top of the huge amount of cars parked up, the meet also drew a big crowd with many of the lanes packed with crowds for most of the night; the majority having nothing but positive things to say about the venue and facilities provided by Warrawong Plaza Management.
Prior to the meet there was quite a bit of discussion about the speed humps and their less-than-ideal size but while we did have a few cars having to crawl over them as well as some scrapage, we only know of two incidents where cars were unable to make it over them cleanly.
In saying that though, as we've mentioned previously things are already in the works to have the humps modified before the next meet which we're confident should resolve the issue entirely.
We were joined on the night by IMCC Sponsors Shannons Insurance as well as the University Of Wollongong (UOW) F-SAE Race team who brought out there race car as well as a driving simulator which was super-popular with the crowds; the drivers seat occupied for pretty much the whole night!
Unfortunately we did struggle a bit with the light when it came to photos. Due to the variety of different variations of light sources and their positioning is made things difficult.
However, in saying that Center Management are already aware of this and are currently in the planning stages of switching over to LED lighting throughout the car park as well as installing additional lighting including in the VIP parking underneath the covered area which will be great!
Overall, for a first meet at a completely new venue we feel that the meet was a great success and we think the feeling was the same, speaking to a bunch of people as things started to wind up for the night. Our fund raising efforts also went into over-drive on the night with the IMCC stickers selling out, thanks to our good mate and keen sales men Ryan who went through close to 100 stickers, raising over $500 for Beyond Blue.
Yes there are a few things to sort out and re-think but that's exactly what we expected from this trial for lack of a better word. Now that we've got one meet under our belts we can get down to planning the next one and making it even bigger and better!!
Be sure to head over to the Gallery page HERE to check out the rest of the photos from the night. Also, we ask that if anyone has any concerns, ideas or general feedback on the meet, be it good or bad, please feel free to flick an email through to firstname.lastname@example.org. We'd love to hear from you!
